  • Eye Bolt

    An eye bolt is a bolt with a loop at one end. They are used to firmly attach a securing eye to a structure, so that ropes or cables may then be tied to it. Machinery eye bolts are fully threaded and may have a collar, making them suitable for use with angular loads up to 45°. Eye bolts without a shoulder should not be used for angular loads. Screw eyes are a screw with a loop on one end and threads on the other end, which is are commonly used to attach cables to objects, for instance attaching a string to the back of a painting to allow the painting to hang from a nail on a wall. Long-shanked screw eyes are termed ‘vine eyes’ and are used to attach support wires to wooden fence posts when growing soft fruit or grape vines, the plants then being tied to the wires.

  • Set Screw

    A set screw is a type of screw generally used to secure an object within or against another object, normally not using a nut. The most common examples are securing a pulley or gear to a shaft. Set screws are usually headless, meaning that the screw is fully threaded and has no head projecting past the major diameter of the screw thread. If a set screw has a head, the thread will extend all the way to the head.

    Thread cutting screws are a class of self-tapping screw that create threads in existing holes in metal, and are often used as fasteners in items that need periodic maintenance. Thread cutting screws are most often used with wood and metal and do not generate the same stress as thread forming screws.
